The next dog cannot go until the first dog's nose crosses the start/finish line. It has been described as "doggy drag racing" and dogs LOVE it!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Conformation is what many people think of when they hear the term “dog show.” It may look like a beauty pageant, but it’s not! Dogs are not being compared to each other; they’re being measured by how closely they conform to the standard of their particular breed. Why? Because the closer a dog’s appearance is to the breed’s standard, the better that dog’s ability will be to produce puppies that meet the standard.</image:caption>

It is an excellent first training class for puppies and provides a lead-in to the AKC Canine Good Citizen program. Handlers must attend all 6 class sessions to take the test and obtain the certificate. MON 5:00-5:30 pm (puppies 3-6 months old ) Deb Hughes Limit 6 MON 5:30-6:00 pm (puppies 6-10 months old) Jennie Weisenberger Limit 6 WED 5:30-6:00 pm (puppies 12 weeks to 6 months old) Peggy Cushard Limit 6 Let’s Play! Using Games to Teach Obedience Like small children, most dogs learn best in short, active sessions. If the games are fun and interesting your dog will learn and remember them much more quickly, and because the dog is an active part of the process, they are more likely to comply when asked to do something that isn’t as much fun (like staying still or going into their crate). All you need is some enthusiasm, a big bag of small soft treats, a 4-6 foot leash, and a buckle or martingale collar or harness (no prong or slip collars) A willingness to act a bit silly is a bonus! This term there will be 3 Let’s Play classes: Let’s Play: Puppy Games This class is for puppies up 5 months old. We’ll be learning all the things a puppy needs to be a well mannered friend. TUES 6:30-7:00 pm Roxann Wilkinson Limit 6 Let’s Play: Impulse Control This class is for dogs 5 months or older who are struggling with self control (jumping on people, losing their minds when they get excited, etc) The games will focus on self control (sitting for greeting, lying quietly on a mat, waiting for permission, etc) 7:15-7:45 pm Roxann WIlkinson Limit 6 Let’s Play: Focus and Engagement This class is for dogs 5 months or older who do fine at home but once they walk out the door, the brain turns off and they have no idea what “sit” or “come” means. <image:title>General Info and Policies - General Info & Policies</image:title>
<image:caption>OTCGL membership is not required to take classes. Some classes are designed for those who want to learn how to teach their dog to be a well-mannered pet (such as Puppy and Household classes). Other classes focus on competitive sports. Many students enjoy competitive classes, even though they do not compete. All levels of classes are offered…from beginner to expert. Whatever the class...all are welcome. We typically offer six 6-week terms each year, with a 2-4 week breaks between terms. Not all classes are held each term. Some classes have pre-requisites. Limited enrollment classes: provide individualized instruction and generally build upon skills as the class progresses. Registration required. Classes are not transferable. Class size limited. First come, first served. Cost per 6 week class: 30 min classes: $100 45 min classes: $125 Special Program classes: Reactive Dog & Tracking classes are $150 and are not eligible for the Platinum Pass. Drop-in classes: for those who already have basic knowledge or skills. Instructors lead the class and answer questions, but may not offer individual attention. Registration not required. Cost: $15 per session. Drop in classes are free for Platinum Pass holders. Discounts: Veterans and current military personnel receive a $10 discount on classes upon providing a valid military ID. Platinum Pass: provides significant savings. (Click for info) Cancellations: Cancellations rec’d by the registration closing date will receive a full refund. Cancellations rec’d after the closing date will receive a refund of fees less a $10 administrative fee. Refunds: Refunds must be requested within 48 hours after the first class session. If, in the opinion of the instructor, a dog is unsuitable for group classes, the student will receive a full refund. Examples include: excessive barking, excessive reactivity to other dogs or people, overly disruptive dogs, or with aggressive tendencies. Inclement Weather: OTCGL has designated a committee of 5 members who live in areas around Lansing. In case of inclement weather, the 5 members assess weather conditions and vote whether to cancel classes. An affirmative vote of 3 or more and classes are cancelled. Members and students will be notified by 8 am for day classes and 5 pm for evening classes. Notification will be made via Facebook, and whenever possible via e-mail or text to students. <image:title>Who Are We? - About Us</image:title>
<image:caption>The Obedience Training Club of Greater Lansing (OTCGL) is an American Kennel Club (AKC) obedience club. Established in 1976, OTCGL is organized and functions as a tax-exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501 c 4. The goals of OTCGL include: * to promote the training and education of dogs and their handlers * to conduct and support obedience trials, tracking tests, and practice matches under the rules of the American Kennel Club * to promote cooperation and good sportsmanship among its members in the training and exhibition of dogs * to encourage and cooperate with individuals and organizations with similar purposes OTCGL strives to accomplish these goals by offering classes to the general public and handlers who compete in a variety of dog sports. In addition, OTCGL conducts AKC events such as Rally and Obedience Trials, AKC Tracking tests, and monthly Practice Matches. OTCGL is governed by a 7 member Board of Directors. OTCGL is a membership organization. However, you do not have to be a member to take classes. Our activities are possible only because our members volunteer their time, experience, expertise, and resources. Active participation is vital for new ideas, creativity, and the financial health of OTCGL. Collectively, our more than 90 members have decades of experience and expertise in dog training. Many members compete in dog sports, others don’t compete, but love dog training. Here are ways members contribute to OTCGL: assist an instructor teaching a class…maybe eventually become an instructor serve as steward at the practice matches or the Rally and Obedience trials serve on a committee or the Board of Directors lay tracks for tracking tests donate food, beverages, or other supplies at our events attend membership meetings help clean our building support and promote the club and its activities to friends, family, colleagues, and the public Club Bylaws</image:caption>
