About Us

The Obedience Training Club of Greater Lansing (OTCGL) is an American Kennel Club (AKC) obedience club. Established in 1976, OTCGL is organized and functions as a tax-exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501 c 4.  The goals of OTCGL include:

* to promote the training and education of dogs and their handlers

* to conduct and support obedience trials, tracking tests, and practice matches under the rules of the American Kennel Club

* to promote cooperation and good sportsmanship among its members in the training and exhibition of dogs

* to encourage and cooperate with individuals and organizations with similar purposes

OTCGL strives to accomplish these goals by offering classes to the general public and handlers who compete in a variety of dog sports.  In addition, OTCGL conducts AKC events such as Rally and Obedience Trials, AKC Tracking tests, and monthly Practice Matches. OTCGL is governed by a 7 member Board of Directors.

OTCGL is a membership organization. However, you do not have to be a member to take classes. Our activities are possible only because our members volunteer their time, experience, expertise, and resources. Active participation is vital for new ideas, creativity, and the financial health of OTCGL.

Collectively, our more than 90 members have decades of experience and expertise in dog training. Many members compete in dog sports, others don’t compete, but love dog training. Here are ways members contribute to OTCGL:

  • assist an instructor teaching a class…maybe eventually become an instructor

  • serve as steward at the practice matches or the Rally and Obedience trials

  • serve on a committee or the Board of Directors

  • lay tracks for tracking tests

  • donate food, beverages, or other supplies at our events

  • attend membership meetings

  • help clean our building

  • support and promote the club and its activities to friends, family, colleagues, and the public
